With the exception, of course, of the chair Adam Giambrone, who is running for mayor - he has incentive to change things. As you point out, without any serious competition, they can get away with quite a bit, and have little motivation to change.

They have no motivation to change because they have no competition. Most people who take the TTC do so because they have no other choice, so they have a very captive audiance who will put up with a lot of shit because there's nothing else available. Since it's unlikely that any serious competition will every happen, management needs to do something. Do THEY have any reason to shake things up a little? I don't think so.

Did you see the news that the TTC employees are launching Work-To-Rule campaign? Now they started to take pictures of bad customers and purposely being late. And all Bob Kinnear said is this was not sanctioned by the management of the Union. One TTC operator called in to 640AM today in the morning and said that he will make sure to live some people outside the bus freeze their bums off, and to make sure people come late to work...

After publishing this article, I read in the National Post that the TTC says that they are going to start cracking down on shoddy behavior. I guess we'll have to wait and see if they can get this attempt at recovering their image to actually work.

Excellent article! the problem with TTC Management and the Union Management is they are not interested in learning anything. They want to relax and we should continue to pay their salary plus benefits (it was reported in 2008 there is a TTC operator who makes more then 100,000 a year)! Then in March of 2011 the TTC contract runs out, wait and see they will demand even bigger increases and even more pension benefits. Sigh...
